BC AMATEUR BOXING NEWS, THE BEGINNING

                                              (photos - 1974, 1966, 1972, 1967 and 1967)

by Brian Zelley, the editor between September 1983 to January 1986

*on the front cover I used a quote from Bob Chambers
of the 1954 Greater Victoria Amateur Boxing Association
which appeared in the 1954 Vancouver Island Golden Gloves
as follows:
"If we can instill in our boxers the will to win fairly
and at the same time maintain the concept of our
democratic principles, then at least part of our
future senior citizens will ensure no one will violate
the terms of human dignity." - Bob Chambers, 1954.

The Topics:
*various topics from flashbacks to current events
in eight pages with a cross-section of photos.

and the results and the ring officials.

was hosted by the Vancouver Optimists in Vancouver

*******Above site is no longer on-line *************
The above link began as a recap of issues of the
Vancouver Island Boxing News and the
BC Amateur Boxing News, but over time there would be
many other topics and issues that would be timely and public.

LINK TO BOXING COACHES and OFFICIALS

*Without coaches and officials there could be no real boxing,
so every coach and official that are active or were an alumni of
the past deserves a place in the story or on the boxing
highway.

* But the above list was expanded on December 24, 2010 post
with many more names such as: Dave Brown, Rick Brough,
Bill Cowie, Tom Crabbe, Jim Gallagher, Joe Preston,
Gary Wallace and Tommy Yule.
