Boxing Setbacks in 2020: by Brian Zelley

Covid 19 is a staggering Blow for boxing and other sports, but despite the setbacks there have been some positives including the revival of amateur boxing by the Nanamo Boxing Club.  Coach Barry Creswell has retired, but the club has been revived with four new coaches. At the end of August 2021, the club will reach the completion of 50 years since the formation in 1971 by Brian Zelley and Dan Wright, with help from George Nepper and John Ormandy

Appetite for boxing still alive in Nanaimo

Appetite for boxing still alive in Nanaimo

Well the return of Racette to pro boxing did not happen
due to health concerns prior to the event.

Will this cancellation  help in future promotions, when the big reason  about a 1,000 folks attended
the event to see Gordie's return to pro boxing?  At this stage it is difficult to tell, but  they may have another promotion in the future, but without local stars, it may be a stretch to expect a 1,000 folks to go see
names of folks they have no real connection to.

Lost on the boxing highway

Through my eyes by Brian Zelley

The above photo is symbolic
but real.
Two worlds that are far apart
never to be joined

The boxing world
vs
Education
and being a
professional accountant

* the following video tells a blended story
starting in  1963. It covers boxing
moments including support for the
"British Columbia Amateur Boxing
Hall of Fame" that was talked about
in 1984, but it remained
"lost on the the boxing highway"
until it became a reality in 2010.

Who can say if the Hall of Fame is a
good idea, but it does appear to please many.
