The News and The Stories of April '84

The "At The Bell" editor's opening story paid tribute to 
former English middleweight boxer Bill Zelley for 
providing a good body of records that were used to
help with various flashback topics and included records
from the 1967 Diamond Belt tournament up to the
1977 BC Golden Gloves tournaments.

Some of the recent competition covered was the
1984 Diamond  Belt tournament hosted by the
Shamrock Boxing Club and held in Burnaby,
Those winning bouts include:
Jim Cumberland, Willy Curry, Wayne Welsh, Trevor Holmes,
Deep Butter, Roger LaFlamme, Peter Beltrame and Alan Brown.

FLASHBACKS:

The key flashback was the 1969 Emerald Gloves, and some
background with a tribute to Bro. O'Grady and some of the
early Emerald Boys including:
Mel Jacobs, Jimmy Walters, Jimmy Hibbert, Don Walker,
Ian McCue, Rickey DesLauriers, and  Roger Touchet. etc.
Also the names of the 1969 boxers were displayed.

*One of the boxers in the 1969 Emerald Gloves
